Carol’s Testimony Given Before Being Baptized

My personal walk with the Lord began when I was five years old. I was taken to church on Easter. The pastor spoke on the resurrection of Jesus. After church, I asked my grandmother what that meant.

She told me of Christ’s suffering and death on the cross, to pay for the sins of all mankind and on the third day God raised Him from the dead. Now Jesus could take care of us and help us from Heaven. All we had to do was believe in Him and do our best to follow his teaching. Then we would be saved. I chose to believe.

I continued to attend church. As I grew older, I went to Sunday School, became active in the youth group, and life at church was good. At home it was not great, but I knew Jesus was by my side.

When I became an adult and married, I continued going to church and remained active. I
taught Sunday School and directed the youth choirs. God blessed me with two sons and two daughters, but sometimes things were so difficult I did not know how I would survive. I forgot to trust in the Lord, but I never felt abandoned by him.

In 2002, God led me to Clairemont Covenant Church. I was at a very low point. My husband had died in 1997. The man I met in 2001 and thought I would marry, turned out to be deceitful. That and other family problems made me very depressed. My work as a piano teacher was the only thing going well. But still I did not feel abandoned by God. In fact, my family at Clairemont Covenant brought me into the fold and I began to heal.

At Clairemont Covenant I started getting active, helping with the children, working with the worship team, and serving on the church council. Most importantly, I began to put my trust in Jesus.

I have truly given my life over to the Lord and this has brought me peace in my life. I did not believe such peace existed. I am letting Him lead me and He is blessing me with many new adventures. This is the reason I am able to share with you today. You are my real, my true, family and I am so thankful the Lord brought me here.

Titus 3:4-5 is a special verse to me: “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us , not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.”
